Frequently Asked Questions
How is GPA calculated?
GPA is a weighted average. For each course, multiply the grade points (e.g. 4.0 for an A) by the number of credit hours. Add all the grade-point-credit products together, then divide by the total credit hours. Example: A (4.0) in a 3-credit course = 12 quality points. If your total is 42 quality points over 14 credits, GPA = 42 รท 14 = 3.0.
What GPA do I need to maintain my scholarship?
Most scholarships require a minimum 2.5โ3.5 GPA. Use our calculator before final grades post to estimate whether you're on track. If you're borderline, our Final Grade Calculator can show exactly what exam score you need in each class to hit your target GPA.
Does a W (withdrawal) affect my GPA?
In most schools, a "W" grade does not affect your GPA โ it appears on your transcript but carries 0 quality points and 0 credit hours. However, some schools have limits on how many W grades you can earn. A "WF" (Withdraw Failing) typically does count as an F. Check your school's policy.
What's the difference between semester GPA and cumulative GPA?
Semester GPA covers only the courses from one term. Cumulative GPA covers every graded course you've ever taken at that institution. Grad school applications typically look at your cumulative GPA, though they also note grade trends โ consistent improvement matters.
